Paul Johnson ride me girl

Product Description

Chicago legend Paul Johnson had many sides to his sound, one was the hyperactive and often crass sounds of the city’s ghetto house sound, as popularised by the likes of DJ Funk and the city’s seminal Dance Mania label. Then it should come as no surprise this EP first appeared on that very label in 1995 and is now re-issued for the heads. ‘Ride Me Girl’ bears all the hallmarks of the Dance Mania sound both lyrically and musically with its thumping and relentless 909 drum workout and looped vocals. Lil’ Louis collaboration ‘Blackout’ is a real gem and reminiscent of another under acknowledged Windy City sound: hard house, as popularised by Green Velvet’s Relief Records imprint. On the flip ‘The Set Up’ and ‘Tak A Lickin’ are more like the Paul Johnson most people know: loopy and funky DJ tools executed to perfection. Much like DJ Sneak, Johnson had huge influence on house music with this sound.
