REPRESS ALERT: Parisian booking agency Vibes and Pepper enters the world of record label ownership in consummate style, reissuing this timeless EP from Motor City veterans Terrence Parker and Claude Young. The 4 Play EP is rightly revered by those who know, first released in 1993 on Dow Records. The two untitled A-Side tracks ooze sexuality thanks to slinky vocals, classic bass lines, beefy drums and intricately arranged hats. On the flip, B1 is perhaps our favourite of the lot thanks to its killer, barely decipherable vocal refrain, while the final cut is a frenetic looped-up jazz house workout of the highest order. With the agency’s roster including a swag of Detroit producers including Scott Grooves, Tyree Cooper, Norm Talley and Rick Wilhite, as well as homegrown heroes Tomska and Underground Paris, we have no doubt there’ll plenty more fire coming from V&P HQ in 2012.
