The heartbeat of Kenya continues to pump through the musical veins of deep south London as Tom Skinner revisits his African project for the first time since the eponymous debut album in 2011. Adding more electronic elements to proceedings, “Owiny Techno” thumps with an insistent 808 as we’re lavished with hypnotic tribal chanting and the flighty flutter of unidentified native wind instruments. “Nyiduonge Drums” is a much more UK-centric affair thanks to an obese speed garage style bassline, allowing the Africanisms to create shamanic texture in the background. It’s techno; but not as you know it.
